Google Penguin 2014 Update

April 17th, 2014 | by Gavin | No Comments

Although we love animals and we love Google, when these two words come together it’s usually not a good sign for SEO specialists and web masters who rely on search traffic to their websites.

There has been a lot of discussions around the web about a algorithm update(possibly Penguin, although I highly doubt it) was released a couple weeks back (End of march 2014). But I personally think the noise from Google was just to shake the old cobwebs off to do a little spring cleaning before they actually release the Penguin 2014 update. Which I think it’ll be around May 2014 like last year.

The time has come…

It’s more than ever important to keep an eye out for who is linking to you and that’s ever increasingly hard for companies and website owners who have been running for ten plus years online. Trust me, I know, here at Viseble we’ve had to go through numerous large websites/clients that have come to us to clear up any Google penalties from old SEO techniques that worked 10 years ago by other SEO professionals. But these methods now don’t work and more than ever they harm your listings. So if you haven’t had a penalty in the past 2 years I think your safe to know that your in the green… until the next test. I’m no way talking down what Google does, in fact it’s good that their taking steps to ensure the web is safe, clean and serves up the right content allowing the visitor to find information in the quickest and easiest way.

If you think you’ve been affected by a Google algorithm update and noticed a fall in traffic but want to make sure then contact us today.

What next? What to do to prepare your self for Google Penguin etc

Google in particular are more about brand awareness nowadays and promoting your services in serving rich and unique content. If you focus on this rather than sourcing from outside websites you’ll be fine for the future. If you’re unsure if your doing the right things to ensuring your position don’t get affected I recommend you look for SEO professionals (like us) to produce a some sort of site audit from On-Page SEO to Off-Page SEO to see how you stand up. We’ve seen companies hit by these updates and noticed their revenue hit by up-to 60%! – Can you or your company survive on this sudden cut of sales?

I’ll be posting up details on how to diagnose and further improve your website’s visibility on search engines within time, but if you have any questions left unanswered or think I’ve missed some key details please come forward and leave a comment.
