A recent report has suggested that home shopping retailer Shop Direct are planning to close two of its four call centres along with taking the work overseas as there just isn’t the demand to ‘talk to someone’ as online shopping rises.

Shop Direct have said that their call volume has drastically dropped by 45 per cent over the last four years as more and more consumers are choosing online as their preferred shopping method resulting in the company possibly transferring 1,800 of its staff to a services group.

Online shopping has become a favourite way for consumers to shop over the last few years and Shop Directs Chief Executive has said that with more people shopping online the need for people be directly involved with customer services is far fewer.
