Ocado reports growth

May 10th, 2012 | by Roy Bendy | No Comments

Online green grocer Ocado has reported a boost in their sales as figures are up by 7 per cent. The grocer who primarily sell Waitrose goods have said that their second quarter figures were also likely to jump by 13 per cent on a year ago.

Ocado has been around for 10 years, however since joining the stock market in 2010, Ocado have struggled to prove themselves as a profitable business, this could be due to the stigma that Waitrose are more of an expensive brand to the likes of Tesco or Sainsbury’s despite them now competing with Waitrose.

The profit increase is thought to be an effect of Ocado’s central distribution point improving the way they work although questions are often asked on whether they can complete on other companies who use their supermarkets as the base for their delivery service- despite this Ocado are improving with their profits and plan to open a second distribution centre next year.

Being an online grocer, Ocado will rely heavily on online searching by consumers to help keep these profits coming.
